Lunchtime Update

I don't have a whole lot planned for the moment blog wise, but I'd like to think out loud for a bit. Yesterday, Kinga Nichols of Crimson Frog Designs featured my beaded washer pieces on her blog for the beaded hardware challenge she hosted. You can also see her beautiful designs at her Etsy store. Kinga had some very nice things to say about me. This just goes to show that most artists are very kind and generous. I am easily humbled by the sincerity of people. Thank you Kinga!

By request, I've been asked to blog about my craft show setup. I have a ton of pictures to show my step by step process for a one day show, as well as a lot of images of two day setups. I'm in the process of writing it.

I have a handful of cosplay commissions to finish. I'm a nerd and was told to find the other nerds in the world and make them stuff. At least my metalsmithing knowledge won't go to waste!

I'm planning out several commissioned and non commissioned magazine articles at the moment. Waiting for responses from editors is the hardest part.

Um, I'm kind of intimidated by writing PDF tutorials for sale. Does anybody have any advice on how to obtain programming for making PDF files?

I'm tempted just to draw diagrams by hand and scan them in to the computer. That's what I'm doing with my resume after all.

I finally finished my steampunk heart necklace and earrings! I'm going to wait to take pictures of it until I finish one commission at least. The necklace is my entry for the Operation Tackle That Bead Stash July Moodboard Challenge.

If you've read this far, then you have just been told almost everything that is looming on my sticky note wall of death. *insert evil laughter* It haunts my dreams, I swear. By telling people my plans publicly, I hope to accomplish my goals in a timely manner. Please feel free to egg me on and comment about what you would most like to see finished. Sorry no pictures today.

I'm off to make some lunch and then start working on some nerdy commissions! *8-I

  1. i think the drawing by hand/scanning is a great idea! do what you are comfortable with and what works for you. adds some more humanity to the instructions. when i taught beadweaving, i was the only teacher who drew diagrams by hand and wrote out my instructions by hand. it was just how i conveyed myself best.

  2. I bet your diagrams were beautiful! I live with an illustrator, so the allure of hand drawn is really strong. I also find myself drawn to the diagrams in Takako Samejima's Bead Fantasies series. The beadwork is not quite my style, but her drawings are so pretty! They are the only beading books I know of that are written that way. Susan Lennart Kazmer's Making Connects book is also full of hand sketches.

I think you're right. They would add a touch of humanity and character to anyone's work. The world is a little bit too mechanized in some respects. Thanks for the encouragement!

  3. If you want to create PDF files, you have to buy the software from Adobe. If I remember right, it's pretty pricy. I wish you good luck in accomplishing your goals. I rarely set them as I almost never complete them in a timely manner, and then I get depressed that I didn't, lol. So I do what I can when I can, creatively!

  4. Have a good time creatively finding solutions to your goals! I can't afford Adobe software right now. :-( I do know that Photoshop can create basic PDF files. I will try experimenting with that first. We'll see how extensive I need to get.
